Northern California notes

The bird images in this collection were taken at the Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. Once the home to more than six million waterfoul, most of the historic lakes and wetlands were drained by the Bureau of Reclamation beginning almost a hundred years ago. Today, the federal government diverts most of the water from the Klamath River system to agriculture, and less than a sixth of the bird population remains. Other locations include the redwoods and the Klamath Mountains.
